Although the Hall For Cornwall building is now closed to the public for the start of our exciting £20m redevelopment project, we are continuing to support professional artists and work with schools and young people to bring the arts to local communities across Cornwall.

Although the Hall For Cornwall building is now closed to the public for the start of our exciting £20m redevelopment project, we continue to support professional artists and work with schools and young people to bring the arts to local communities across Cornwall.
During the past couple of weeks, our Arts Development team have attended The Royal Shakespeare Company Play Making Festival with students from Treviglas, Brannel, Redruth, Humphry Davy, Liskeard & Callington schools, who all got to perform on the main stage; delivered workshops for youngsters from Pondhu and St Breward primary schools;  held "end of term" pop-ups and performance events for our Youth Dance and Youth Theatre Companies and worked with local artists on Creation Space projects which provide artists with a one-week residency in a local venue to develop and test new work. 26 Creation Space residencies have been held in 17 different venues across Cornwall over the past 12 months.

At the same time, they have held one-to-one sessions for twelve Cornish dance and theatre artists, visited a local FE college to talk to young people about careers in the arts, and worked with partners on preparations for a Secondary Drama Conference, all in a few weeks' work!

HFC passionately supports arts provision in Cornwall and encourages local artists to develop their talent. Thanks to the Arts Council, Cornwall Council and The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, the team supports & creates opportunities for professional artists and young people to perform in theatre spaces, care homes, schools and colleges, village halls, museums, galleries and gardens across Cornwall.

Recent successes include staging a critically acclaimed performance of Nick Darke's 'Hell's Mouth' by members of the HFC Youth Theatre, directed by Simon Harvey, described as "brilliant" by Dawn French and as "JUST ABOUT THE BEST YOUTH THEATRE SHOW WE’VE SEEN. EVER’ BY_ _Urban Playground. One of the young people taking part in the production was HFC Youth Theatre member Amber, who said that this experience, together with her involvement in two other HFC productions, had led to the opportunity to work on shows with professional companies such as WildWorks and Miracle, these experiences contributing to her securing a place at ALRA.

HFC supports three youth theatre groups for people aged between 7 and 21 years. The groups have performed at the National Theatre, as well as at local venues. The chance to join next term's Youth Theatre groups opens on 1 August.

HFC also supports two youth dance companies - HFC Youth Dance for ages 12 - 19 and Junior Dance for dancers aged 7 - 11. the company work with professional practitioners to train in Contemporary dance and develop as choreographers and performers. The company has performed all over the Southwest and specialises in site-specific work and training at prestigious London venues such as Rambert & Laban. Auditions to join these groups will be held on 16th September.

Arts Development, one-to-one meetings with professional artists, are on the rise, usually seeing around five individual artists a week. Over the past four years, they have held almost 1,000 of these meetings, offering mentoring support and encouraging artists to reflect on the work they have done in the past and talk about what they would like to accomplish going forward.

Other projects include the Associate Schools Programme, where HFC works with the Royal Shakespeare Company and local schools to change how young people experience and engage with Shakespeare. Treviglas College and Launceston College are currently our local lead associate schools, and, together with their networks of 23 other local schools, they have been working on a range of projects, including the recent Launceston Cluster Show, where 200 youngsters performed Macbeth at Dingles Heritage Fairground, in and around the dodgems and ghost train!

We are very proud of the achievements of our Arts Development team, who will be working hard over the next two years to make sure that HFC continues to support the arts ecology across Cornwall.

We will provide details of what is happening in our keeping in touch newsletters on our website and social media channels, so make sure you don't miss out.
